Today's My Day!

I hope you have all been keeping up with this amazing blog hop, Bowls with Borders.  There are 160+ quilters participating and there has been some beautiful and creative bowls.
I've never tried paper piecing before, to be honest it scared me. All those tiny pieces were intimidating, HOWEVER the Bowls with Borders were too darn cute to pass by.  When the blog hop was announced I decided this was the time to get over my fear.  I signed up and before you know it I was hooked on paper piecing.  Before I show you my creations, I want to give a big shout out to Carol from Just let me Quilt and Madame Samm for all the hard work organizing and cheering us on!

NOW ON WITH THE SHOW!

For my first set of bowls, I followed the pattern as it was...which was pretty small. I ended up with a mug rug.  I loved the colors and decided I wanted placemats for the kitchen that matched the mug rug.  I enlarged the pattern and made 2 placemats. (Only one is in the photo as I haven't finished the binding on the 2nd).

I really wanted to make a pretty set of bowls for my red and gold dining room, so I ended up with a table topper (unfortunately it is also unfinished, so it is pinned to the frame). I was happy when we were told they didn't have to be finished projects because I knew all of mine would be finished in time.

Then I had some fabric in blues and browns and thought that would make a nice table runner, or table topper, or..... Well, I went to work on the bowls and they were looking a bit formal, so I went to Regina Grewe's website. (Regina generously let us use her Pilin' Up pattern for our Bowl with Borders blog hop and she has lots of great paper piecing patterns). She had some fun chickens and a link where I found some eggs. So I tried my hand at combining those two patterns to make a "Rhode Island Red" chicken sitting on eggs, just for some whimsy. (again, not finished, so pinned up for the photo shoot. Anyone have a suggestion for a border for this one???).

Thanks for hopping by and be sure to visit the others scheduled for today. Just click on their name and it will take you to their website. I do have a giveaway for anyone that is a follower that leaves a comment. Please be sure I have your email if you are a no reply blogger. I will choose a winner at the end of the blog hop.
